Where Thieves Break In and Steal

What we found this morning-our window pried open

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. Matthew 6:19

We live in a world where thieves break in and steal, sometimes figuratively, sometimes literally. Unfortunately, last night it happened to us literally. Caleb’s computer, my clinic phone, and wallet were stolen. The window bars were pried apart.

It was a brutal reminder of the world we live in. We are in a bit of a daze, and it seems hard with all the other things we have on our plate. But thankful that we are okay (Lydia’s and Moses’ rooms were the closest to the place things were stolen), my computer was not stolen, passports are still here. And we remember the second part of the verse:

But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. Matthew 6:20. We look forward to that place of no rust, no moths, and no thieves. In the meantime, we’re remembering to store up our treasure there.

Oh, So, so sorry to hear of the burglary! I pray for you, and for your being able to recover the information stolen, somehow. Also getting over the feelings of lost confidence, but as you say, this is the world we are in for now. I am thankful for your giving it to the Lord, but that does not mean the repercussions are not deeply painful. Your being in Rwanda is an inspiration to many, and I thank the Lord for you.

We had a joyous time this past weekend at Kent and Rebekah’s wedding in Pittsburgh. Travel is more taxing for me these days, but all went very well. My grandson John Bentley drove me there and back. I do still drive, but very nice to have a chauffeur. A joy to see such a Christ-centered marriage, and to see family, especially Tom and Elinor and Janie.

I am planning to be at Sara and Logan’s wedding, Dan and Ruthanne doing the driving. I pray for Sara and Logan and for you all.

    Grace and peace, Aunt Barbara

What an unpleasant surprise. I pray you get your computer, phone and wallet back! Continue with your good works. Lots of excitement in the near future – a wedding and Caleb, Jr. off to Yale. Good news. Cheers and love, Liz Sent from my iPad
