In a place with many sad stories, Etienne’s is sadder than most. He was diagnosed with cancer (osteosarcoma) about 6 months ago and received some treatment at the main hospital in Kigali. His father left the hospital to sell their field, to get some money for treatment and has not been seen since. Etienne recently came to our hospital with some shortness of breath and he has widespread metastasis in his lungs.
Caleb, along with about 15 Rwandan boys, brought him up to his Bible Study, where, praise the Lord, he accepted Jesus to come into his life. His mother specifically asked for a Bible, which we gave her. Caleb inscribed this verse in it:
John 11: 25: Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
This is the same verse that is on my (Louise’s) mother’s grave.
Etienne has been discharged from the hospital, but he is staying in our nutrition center for supportive care
